History & Heritage

the town of San Piero a Sieve (Firenze)
We are located in Mugello, one of Florence's most interesting areas to visit, with an abundance of historic monuments and sites confirming the ancient importance of the region. The House of Medici presence and activities have left some unequivocal witnesses placed in a naturalistic-environmental context of great charm, as the the castle of Trebbio (1461) or the Medici villa at Cafaggiolo (1451), both built by Michelozzo at the instigation of Cosimo de' Medici. This artist also worked at the monastery Convento del Bosco ai Frati which still preserves a beautiful wooden Crucifix by Donatello. In the little town of San Piero a Sieve you can admire the parish church and its magnificent baptismal font in the style of the Della Robbias. A ten minute walk and you get on the top of the hill overlooking the town where there is the impressive San Martino fortress, designed by Buontalenti.
Nearby villages:
Scarperia, Borgo San Lorenzo, Barberino di Mugello, Vaglia, Firenzuola, Vicchio di Mugello.

Attractions and activities:
Golf course Poggio de' Medici (Scarperia)
Mugello Circuit (Autodromo del Mugello, Scarperia)
Borgonuovo Sport centre (San Piero a Sieve)
Centro Piscine Mugello (Swimming pool centre, both outdoor and indoor, Borgo San Lorenzo)

The extremely harmonious natural environment, enhanced by the Bilancino lake, the dense network of footpaths (we are a stop along the Via degli Dei trekking route) and the superb local cuisine, make this area an ideal holiday destination.
